Putting Your Business On Autopilot

Business on Autopilot

Put Your Business On Autopilot

When a pilot flies an airplane he can either hand-fly the airplane (control the airplane himself) OR put the aircraft on autopilot and relieve himself  of much of the physical labor required to keep the airplane on course.

In The 4-Hour Work Week, Tim Ferriss points out that the New Rich are a able to live millionaire lifestyles because they have put their businesses or jobs on autopilot.

Having your business on autopilot means the day-to-day operation of your business, or job, is running without the need for YOUR CONSTANT supervision.

After all, what’s the use of traveling the beaches of the world if you’re constantly online, on your iPhone, or in CONSTANT touch with managers, buyers, customers, etc.?

HOW do you put your business on autopilot? Without getting into too much detail…after all this is a blog post not a rehash of Tim Ferriss’ great book, I will give you three ways to put your business on autopilot:

1. Begin your business (if it’s already begun it’s not too late to reflect and redirect you efforts) with the end in mind. The end of course is putting the business on autopilot so you have your freedom. If this isn’t your goal you might as well stop reading now. But if it is, enjoy!

2. Outsource and delegate. In order for you to have your freedom you’ll need to outsource as much of the day-to-day duties as is humanely possible. You’ll need to outsource menial tasks to those whose cost per hour is much less than your BUT will still be able to accomplish the task. You will need to delegate as much of the decision-making as is possible so as not to be bothered with decisions that could easily be made at lower levels.

3. Automation. The Internet and everything that touches it will become your alley in your pursuit of putting your business on autopilot. Don’t be afraid of technology; instead embrace it since it will become one of your greatest friends and assets.

What’s the greatest challenge of putting you business on autopilot?—You!

If you haven’t noticed, entrepreneurs tend to have type A personalities. As an entrepreneur you will have to  do some soul searching when it comes to letting go. It won’t be easy to hand over your baby’s financial matters, schedule, contacts, etc. to what may be strangers or at the worst or employees at the best.

Not only will you be outsourcing much of your work, you’ll also have to hire the right people and agencies as well as properly MANAGE those people and agencies.

The result of putting your business on autopilot, however, can be the ability to travel and enjoy the world with peace of mind.

The choice is yours.

By putting your business on autopilot you relieve yourself of the majority of the manual labor required to run your business; or be at the controls of your business ALL the time and miss out on much of what life has to offer.

Hope to see you on the beaches of the world!
