American Writers and Artists, Inc.

This year marks my first year at an American Writers and Artists, Inc. (AWAI) Bootcamp. I’ve wanted to go for some time and this year I was able to clear my calendar and make the pilgrimage to Delray Beach, Florida for AWAI’s four day, intensive, program entitled “FastTrack to Copywriting Success”.

Upon my arrival at West Palm Beach International Airport yesterday I met other pilgrims headed to Delray Beach for the conference. Pat, a retired psychologist who’s interested in writing for alternative health businesses and Donna, who’s already started her E-newsletter and graphic design business—thanks to recent downsizing by her former employer.

The Real Secret to Affiliate Marketing (Final Chapter)

In last week’s installment we discussed setting up a website using WordPress to just, essentially, talk about your passion. In keeping with our theme of our website, “Feelinggreatover50.com” we’ve taken the time to write weekly about our journey from 260 lbs of blubber to 185 lbs of health.

Over the weeks we’ve just written about our experiences…our ups…our downs. You’ve written about how you’ve spent years and money trying to get in shape but finally found the secret. Through eating Paleo and Primal with kettle bells and Crossfit exercises people don’t even recognize you.

Building an Affiliate Marketing Following

At this point you will write a short, less than 10-page free e-book explaining your journey (in general terms about how you made your transformation). Just enough information to pique someone’s interest to sign up and get the free eBook.

In the eBook you’ll explain how you read about Paleo Nutrition and Fitness and site the books you read (here’s the secret…each of those books will be hyperlinked to your Amazon Affiliate account). You’ll also site how you’re a fan of Mark Sisson’s and his Primal Blueprint books and Primal Living lifestyle (yep, you’re also a Mark Sisson’s affiliate).

In your eBook you’ll talk about the kettle bell exercises and gurus that helped you get where you wanted…and you guessed it, you’ll be affiliates to those products and services as well. Read the rest of this entry

The Real Secret of Affiliate Marketing (Part 3)

Welcome back entrepreneurs! In our first two parts of our series we looked at our first scenario and The Real Secret of Affiliate

Does Facebook Make Money

Marketing. Scenario One: You have a product or service to sell but not a lot of folks to market to.

Through Affiliate Marketing partners like ClickBank, Commission Junction and Share-A-Sale you can get access to hundreds of affiliates with hundreds of thousands of prospects and contacts who may be interested in your product or service.

The Real Secret to Affiliate Marketing: Scenario Two

Let’s look at the Second Scenario: You DON’T have a product or service to sell but you would like to monetize your blog site.

What you have is a hobby, or a passion you’d like to share—and hey, if you can make a few dollars from it—why not!

As an example, let’s just say you are over 50 and have lost over 100 lbs in the past year, lowered your cholesterol, blood pressure, and generally made your doctor smile at the great results. Now you’d like to share that information with other folks who were in your predicament. Read the rest of this entry

Memorial Day Reflection

Memorial Day Reflection

Memorial Day 2014

Memorial Day 2014

I’d like to take a break this week from our current series on The Real Secret of Affiliate Marketing to wish our American readers a wonderful Memorial Day.

I ask that each of you take the time to reflect on the freedoms you have today that were bought and paid for by the blood of fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and coast guardsmen in our nation’s history.

Today is a day to put away petty political bickering and party dogma so that we honor the sacrifice of the men and women in our 250-plus year history who gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Say a prayer for those families who have lost loved ones in recent wars and conflicts.

Finally, I ask that you enjoy your barbeque, picnic, or the Indy 500. One of the greatest ways to honor our fallen is to live each day to its fullest; to raise our families to always strive to do our best and live life. Carpe Diem! Seize the day!

From the Empowered Pros, have a great Memorial Day and we’ll see you next week for Part 3 of The Real Secret of Affiliate Marketing.

The Real Secret of Affiliate Marketing (Part 2)

shareasaleIn last week’s post we talked briefly about finding the real secret to affiliate marketing. This week we cover the first scenario where you have a product or service to sell but not a HUGE list of followers on your website or blog.

For our purpose let’s say it you have an eBook entitled, “How to make millions of dollars on yard sales.” You’ve done the research, you’ve written the book and published it in several formats for readers to download. You plan to sell the eBook for $49.95

As did your research and wrote the book you also came up with an idea for a downloadable training program as well as providing exclusive seminars designed to walk your buyers through a step-by-step process on how to set up “killer” yard sales.

So what do you do now, what’s your marketing strategy? Read the rest of this entry

The Real Secret of Affiliate Marketing (Part 1)

Affiliate MarketingIf you have a blog or marketable item to sell, affiliate marketing could be just what you’re looking for to reach your prospects. Affiliate marketing gives the online entrepreneur the ability to tie into other marketers and websites such as Amazon.com, ClickBank, Commission Junction, etc. and make money by selling products through your website or your email contacts AND through other websites and email contacts.

How does it work? Glad you asked.

Most neophyte web marketers believe they can simply build a website or blog then sign up for a few affiliate programs and roll in the dough. The hope and pray people will show up on their site and magically folks will be interested in what they’re selling. In an effort to drive traffic to your site and build up your unique hits per page, you’re willing to spend a lot of time and money taking advice from the “pros”. The sad truth is, while there are plenty of “experts” out there who will sell you their latest how-to “get-rich-quick” as an affiliate program and ways to make money on the Internet…99.9% of these guys are selling…well, to put it bluntly, CRAP.

It’s the old adage, “If it sounds/looks too good to be true, it probably is.” Read the rest of this entry

The Martini

The Martini

This Sunday, I decided to write a bit of a non-sequitur when it comes to eCommerce.

Today we talk about the martini. Yes, that icon of American business…a tantalizing combination of vermouth and vodka or gin.

The Martini

The Martini

Admired by some, reviled and repulsed by others; the martini has been a symbol of business for years.

Business Redo’s

Business Redo’s

One of the neat things about playing video games is the “redo”. Whether you’re playing Mario Brothers, Call of Duty, or Pong (some of you remember that one) if you lose the game you get to start over again—you get a redo.

When it comes to starting a business you can get redo’s as well…but at a price. Let’s face it, some of the most successful entrepreneurs, politicians, and leaders (notice I separate politician from leader) had their share of redo’s. Read the rest of this entry

Get Rich-Guaranteed!

Oh how many times have we heard or had, “Get rich-guaranteed” implied during our lives. What’s the truth…can anyone guarantee you’ll be rich? Well…maybe.

Over the years we’ve chased all kinds of ways to get rich; and when I say rich, I really mean wealthy. Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko in their book, “The Millionaire Next Door” define wealthy based upon net worth. Their threshold was a net worth of one million dollars based upon assets minus liabilities equals net worth. The authors also emphasize most of the millionaires they interviewed were motivated by investing in APPRECIABLE assets—assets that grow in value vice inappreciable assets—assets that lose value. Think a home versus an automobile. Read the rest of this entry

E-Commerce and a New Beginning

E-Commerce and a New Beginning

After a long hiatus from our blog and a year plus of e-commerce experience through our Amazon FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon), it’s time to step back and evaluate what we’ve learned over the past 18 months. Like so many of my friends and relatives we were lured to the Internet with the hopes of building a business that would eventually replace our full-time incomes we’re not seeing the results we expected. We ARE making money…BUT…just barely breaking even at this point. Again, like so many of our friends and relatives…and I’m sure many of you, what we found was a maze rather than a road map to success.

Like so many novices we were inundated with “the latest and greatest” method to build a successful online business. Many of those who approached us were nothing more than multi-level marketing companies trying to disguise themselves as legitimate business opportunities. Others were pitch men with the latest and greatest software “guaranteed” to get your website to number one on a Google search. Sound familiar?

It seems every “successful” entrepreneur who can spell e-commerce has made at least $100,000 their first year and for the low, low price of $xxx they’ll share how they became successful—right!
